When is the FarmingTree of interest
A FarmingTree is useful for every farm to assess and communicatie the social and ecological relations of the farm on its location. In one image the broad spectrum of effects of a farm is visible; a complexity that is often underestimated.
In the following contexts, a FarmingTree provides added value:
- In a study group of farmers to evaluate and discuss the development of each other's farms
- In an application for an environmental permit to visualize and present the (effects of) the farm
- To discuss with a lessor on farm development in relation to the goals of the lessor
- In a regional cooperation on the value of the farm for regional objectives in the living environment
- In a local consumer group to communicate about farm development and sustainability
- In citizen participation / funding to communicate about farm development and sustainability
- As a reflection tool in farm strategy, where are you now and where do you want to go
Experience in practice
Feedback from farmers and stakeholders in using the FarmingTree:
- A surprisingly open conversation in which as well themes were ‘on the table’ that are normally not discussed
- A good way to discuss job satisfaction and it allowed for a nice ‘more loose’ conversation on farm income and the earning capacity
- It is a relief for the farmer to be able to talk more freely about the form, there was not a sphere of being judged
- A good tool for a ‘kitchen table’ conversation on farm development, eg between a farmer and the lessor
